Robert “Papa” Donald O’Brien July 19. 1941 to February 28, 2018
We would like to announce with great sadness for those of us he left behind and great joy for him on the passing of Robert “Papa” Donald O’Brien who left to be with God the Father and Jesus on February 28, 2018. Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Stark) and their children, Tammi and Larry McCloskey of Yarnell, Sandi O’Brien of Phoenixville, Lee O’Brien of Michigan and Ami and Blaine Thomas of Bellefonte. Papa will also be fondly remembered by his loving grandchildren Nanci Hammons- Wellar and Jimmie, Alesha Gavlock and Kyle, Caleb Thomas, Isaac Thomas, Colton McCloskey and Hannah Thomas and his great grandchildren Alex, Justice, Liberty, Kendall, Charlotte and Nash.
Early on in life, Robert loved growing up in the small town of Snow Shoe, Pa where he was raised by his grandparents and legal guardians Claire and Marie Hall and his Aunt Charlotte Hall. He grew up surrounded by his family whom he adored. Uncle Chicken and Aunt Leota and their five children, Roger, Ronnie, Rick, Tom and Joe lived across the street, Uncle George and Helen and their five children, George, Johnny, Diane, Susie and Jimmy lived down the street and Aunt Barb and Boyd and their two girls, Bebe and Betsey lived up the street. Robert enjoyed his many escapades with his cousins and friends some of whom have passed before him.
Robert lived in Bellefonte for many years where he lovingly attended to his family and friends. He adored Nancy, his children and their spouses that resulted in every grandchild and great grandchild that was brought into his world. He was willingly available to help out and babysit when called upon. He was even available for pet sitting for family and friends! He eventually moved back to Snow Shoe to live in his wife’s childhood home of David and Ruth Stark where earlier in life he enjoyed hanging out with Nancy’s siblings Janice, Chick, Deb, David and Calvin.
We would like to thank God for blessing us with his life. He was a wonderful husband, dad, papa and friend to us. In addition, thank you to all of our family and friends who offered prayers and caring thoughts throughout this difficult journey.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Snow Shoe Methodist Church 501 Moshannon Ave. Snow Shoe at 2pm with Pastor Catherine W. Dittman officiating. Visitation will be 1-hour prior to service. Robert will be laid to rest at Askey Cemetery.
