Our Heritage

The Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc has two locations. One is  in Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania and the other is  in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania.

The Snow Shoe location is a small town nestled on top of the Allegheny Mountains, thus giving the surrounding area the name, "The Mountaintop Area".

The Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc moved into the Robert L. Dixon Funeral Home, which had been closed for several years due to the death of Mr. Dixon.  The Dixon Funeral Home had been in operation for more than 25 years under the direction of Robert L. Dixon. Before that, the funeral home was know as Johnson's Funeral Home, operated by Von Johnson.

One may ask, why would John Daughenbaugh reopen the funeral home in Snow Shoe? John was approached by several people of the Snow Shoe community asking him to reopen the old Dixon Funeral Home.

Up to this point, since Mr. Dixon's death, the people of the Mountaintop area needed to travel a minimum of 15 miles in either direction to have a funeral service for their loved ones. John went to see the property several times, sat down, wrote a business plan, and submitted it for financing. Despite being turned down by four institutions, he did not give up. He, with the assistance of the Small Business department at Penn State, submitted the plan to a fifth institution. They could see the dream John had for the funeral home and approved his request.

Purchasing the property in July of 2007; he, along with friends and family members, worked to do the remodeling needed. On August 8, 2007, the state inspector approved the opening of the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home. John's dreams of being a funeral director and owning his own place had come true.

The Centre Hall location is also a small town. It is approximately 10 miles from State College, home of the Pennsylvania State Univerisity. The funeral home has been in operation for serval generations.  Mark D. Heintzelman purchased the funeral home from David Jefferies in 1981.

Due to Mark's declining health, he found it necessary to to sell the property.  In his search for a successor, he thought of John. They began the process of transfering ownership of the property in October 2016. On Novermber 18, 2016, the transfer was completed and the funeral home name changed from Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc.

Mark is very pleased that John has taken over the property and feels he will be a perfect fit for the Centre Hall and surrounding area. John is pleased on the acquisition also because the two towns, Snow Shoe and Centre Hall, remind him of his home town. He is excited to serve in both locations.

John's mission is to provide all families with the highest level of quality possible. He is dedicated to treating both the deceased and their survivors with respect, dignity, and compassion. He ensures that each family will be able to provide a meaningful funeral service for their loved ones.
