William J "Bill" Scheuchenzuber
William John Scheuchenzuber, 69, passed away February 6th, 2018 at home surrounded by family. He was the son of the late Herman and Pauline (Kegel) Scheuchenzuber of Lancaster, PA. He is survived by his wife, Jane, of 47 years; his daughter, Jennifer (and Douglas) Pupard of Port St. Lucie, FL; his son, James (and Courtney) Scheuchenzuber of State College, PA; six grandchildren: Raven (and Josh) Moore, Terre Haute, IN; Ewan and Ivy Renn and Atlas Pupard, Port St. Lucie, FL; Ever and William Scheuchenzuber, State College, PA; one great grandchild, Wren Moore, Terre Haute, IN; two brothers: Joe (and Donna) Scheuchenzuber, The Villages, FL and Steve (and Pam) Scheuchenzuber, Mechanicsburg, PA; one niece, Laura Scheuchenzuber of Mechanicsburg, PA; a sister-in-law, Elaine Scheuchenzuber, West Palm Beach, FL; and one brother-in-law, Tom (and Sandy Bookhammer) Kelly, Martinsburg, PA. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
Bill graduated from McCaskey High School in Lancaster PA in 1966 and entered the National Guard. He married Jane Kelly in 1970. They raised their family in Penns Valley, Centre County, PA. He attended Penn State attaining several degrees and then worked there all of his life, the majority of his career as director of the Hybridoma and Cell Culture Lab.
He enjoyed skiing (He was a member of the Tussey Mountain Ski Club.) and dancing (He was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Ballroom Dance Association.). He was an avid cruiser, particularly enjoying trans-Atlantic cruises although a recent trans-Pacific intrigued him. He enjoyed snorkeling in the Caribbean, Hawaii, and most recently, The Great Barrier Reef. In the last few years he was an Apprise Medicare volunteer helping people with state health insurance issues.
Most important in his life were his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them, and as soon as they were old enough, he introduced them to cruising and snorkeling.
He was a kind man and a wonderful father and grandfather. He was loved by everyone who met him. He quietly touched many lives and will be sadly missed. A celebration of his life will be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to; CH35-Penn State Health, C/O Theda Shaw, 500 University Dr., Hershey, PA 17033. Please put; Penn State Bladder Cancer Support Group in the memo line.
