Lynn E. Dutrow, 82, of Centre Hall, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on March 22, 1935, in Centre Hall, he was the son of the late John H. and Alice L. Heckman Dutrow. On August 2, 1957, in Aaronsburg, he married Mary Louise Hosterman, who survives at home.
Lynn was a 1953 graduate of Penns Valley Area High School. It was the first graduating class of the new high school.
Lynn enlisted in the US Army in 1957, spending time in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He later transferred to the Army reserves. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1963. He earned the rank of SP4 and received the Good Conduct medal for his years of service. He was very proud to serve in the military and to defend the United States.
Lynn was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Centre Hall. After his military discharge, he worked as a White Washer, white washing many of the barns in the Penns Valley area. He then worked as a contractor, working for Charles Rishel and Seymour Stover. Then, Lynn went to work as the only employee of the Centre Hall Borough. Lynn retired as Borough Manager after 42 years of service. He was currently a member of the Borough Council.
Lynn enjoyed masonry work, caning furniture, collecting antiques, and doing woodworking projects. His favorite pastime was being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of their accomplishments in sports.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 60 years, two daughters; Kathleen L. Yarger and her husband, Duane, of Centre Hall, and Karen L. Borza and her husband, Jim, of Benezette, five grandchildren; Jon Yarger, Ian Yarger and his wife, Elizabeth, Alicia Kollar and her husband, Colin, Quincy Cunningham and her husband, Steve, and Jamie Borza, three great grandchildren, Max Cunningham, Maelynn Cunningham, and Hank Kollar, and one brother, Warren R. Dutrow of Beaver Springs, PA.
Along with his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by his infant son, Kraig L. Dutrow, five brothers; Kenneth, Melvin, John, and D. Ray, and two sisters; Geraldine Dashem and Hazel Rockey.
In accordance with Lynn’s wishes, all services will be private. He will be laid to rest in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall.
